Dale Kelly Bankhead is the Secretary-Treasurer of the San Diego Working Families Council where she serves as CEO.

Prior to the Working Families Council, Dale served as the elected Secretary-Treasurer of the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council.  Before that, she was the Labor Council’s Political Director.

Before coming to the Labor Council, Dale held a variety of senior policy and management positions on the staff of Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins, both when Atkins was on the San Diego City Council and during her time in the State Assembly.  During this period, Dale was responsible for communications and staff management; served as the City Council Budget Committee consultant; and worked on issues and legislation, including those impacting the Labor and LGBT community.

Dale’s work history includes serving as the statewide campaign manager for the No on Proposition 8 campaign for marriage equality and a number of other political campaign positions.  She was also the Public Affairs Director for the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties for 8 years, managing their communications and legislative program and providing expertise on civil liberties in the post 9/11 era, reproductive freedom, and LGBT issues.  Her background also includes the position of Legislative Director for Assemblymember Carole Migden, Executive Director of the University of California Student Association, and Assistant to the President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1363 in Dade County, Florida.

Dale’s community service includes serving on the Board of Directors of the San Diego LGBT Community Center since 2003 where she held the position of co-chair in 2011 and 2012 and then again in 2014 and 2015. She also served on the board of the League of Women Voters of San Diego and on the Rancho de la Penasquitos Town Council.

Dale has been honored many times for her social justice work by groups such as the San Diego Democratic Party, the Tom Homann Law Association, San Diego Democrats for Equality, and the Metropolitan Community Church.  She was chosen as San Diego Pride’s “Friend of the Year” in both 2006 and 2016.

Dale is a graduate of Wellesley College and attended the University of Miami School of Law.  She has three daughters.
